DOHA - The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received a telephone call on Thursday from His Royal Highness Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg, who offered his condolences on the passing of the Father Amir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

During the call, the Grand Duke expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the Amir and to the people of Qatar over the passing of the late Father Amir. For his part, HH the Amir expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Grand Duke for his kind sentiments.

Continuing Messages of Condolence

The call from the Grand Duke of Luxembourg was among several the Amir received on Thursday, as messages of condolence continued to reach Doha from across the Gulf, the wider Arab world, and beyond. On the same day, Sheikh Tamim also received telephone calls from His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium and from HRH Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who each conveyed their sympathies over the loss.

Throughout the mourning period, the Amir received numerous telephone calls and cables of condolence from heads of state and government leaders around the world, including US President Donald Trump, US Vice President JD Vance, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, alongside many others who expressed their solidarity with Qatar, its leadership, and its people.

Days of Mourning and Global Tributes

The Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, passed away on Sunday, July 12, at the age of 74. He led Qatar from 1995 to 2013 and is widely regarded as one of the architects of modern Qatar, overseeing a period of rapid economic growth and elevating the country's regional and international standing before voluntarily handing power to his son, Sheikh Tamim, in 2013. The Amiri Diwan declared four days of national mourning beginning on Sunday, with flags flown at half-mast and government work suspended.

Over three days of official receptions at Lusail Palace, from Monday, July 13, through Wednesday, July 15, the Amir received a steady procession of heads of state, crown princes, senior officials, and citizens who came to offer their condolences in person, while many more world leaders conveyed their sympathies by telephone and written message, in a broad show of solidarity with the Amir, the Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar.
